Principal's Newsletter - August 18th, 2011

Welcome back for a great new school year. Attached is the first Principal's Newsletter for the 2011-12 school year which highlights many of the fabulous improvements and additions to our campus over the summer.

Welcome to a Great New School Year at HIS!

To all the HIS community,

As we prepare to embark upon a new school year, I would like to extend a heartfelt 'welcome' to all our students and their families and hope that everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable summer with friends and loved ones.  For our students returning to school, it is a time filled with anticipation and excitement as they prepare to reacquaint themselves with friends, to develop new friendships, and to enter the next grade level at their school.  For students new to Hangzhou International School, or entering into school for the first time, the first day at HIS will prove a milestone in their young lives.

This year will be particularly special for one group of our young learners, as we will be inaugurating our nursery program for 2-3 year olds. In addition several of our pre-school students are starting the year in the full-day pre-school program. We are equally excited about the changes to the facilities made over the summer to further improve the learning comfort and safety of our students. We encourage everyone to attend the "meet and greet" day on August 17th when you will be able to see some of the changes we have made to the school. We also encourage parents to attend the Back to School Nights on Sept. 6 and 7th.

Inevitably, the excitement and bustle of school opening in August will give way to more comfortable and established routines as we progress through the fall months and beyond.  During this time, and throughout the year, we will continue to maintain our strong focus on academic excellence that has come to distinguish HIS. This is our core purpose as a caring and compassionate school and it is reflected through the unwavering efforts of our excellent staff who work with our students and families every day. In order to make sure we have as efficient a beginning as possible to the year it is highly recommended that you review the Student Handbook as a family to reduce any situations of misunderstand regarding expectations, procedures etc.

To all of our parents, students, staff and community members, "Welcome Back"!  We all have an important role to play in the success of our students and I look forward to working closely with you throughout the 2011-2012 School Year to ensure that this is an exciting, fulfilling, and rewarding year for all of our students.

Lower School Field Day to Continue Despite the Rain - ECE Field Day on Monday

We will be moving our activities indoors to continue with the planned field day today. The weather forecast for the next few days makes postponement not a likely fix. The Early Childhood students (PS-K) will have their field day on Monday and it too will be accommodated indoors if the weather persists as it is.
